When, in January, we returned from four months in Moldova - with plans to return in September - we thought, naively, as it happens, that we had plenty of time to begin preparations for that trip. Little did we know the clock had entered a conspiracy with the calendar - the former reducing hours to minutes, and the other months to weeks. Days, even!
